One simple definition of sustainability is building to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In constructing and occupying buildings, we expend vast quantities of the earth's resources and generate a significant portion of its environmental pollution. Buildings account for 30 to 40 percent of the world's energy consumption and carbon dioxide gas emissions. (Fundamentals of Building Construction | Allen,Iano 2014)
At Crutcher Homes, LLC, our goal is to create a beautiful space for generations to come while considering the environmental footprint we leave today. Our homes offer such options as: Rainwater collection barrels for sourcing water for exterior irrigation, solar panels, skylights (for maximizing daylight and reducing lighting costs). We use LED lighting in fixtures and bulbs which have higher initial costs but doesn't contain harmful mercury and has a 25,000-50,000 hour expected life. LED also has a very high efficacy in lumens per watt (lm/W) of 60-125+ which in turn lowers electricity costs. We will work with clients to incorporate any other specific items of this nature they may desire to positively impact both the project and the environment.
